Madison, CT · Since 1980
Whether you want to cover gray, refresh a faded shade or try something new, our colorists have been doing it on the Connecticut shoreline since 1980. Madison Avenue Salons offers hair color at both of our family-owned salons: Madison Avenue Salon on Old Post Road in Madison and Madison Avenue East on Boston Post Road in Old Saybrook.
Every color service starts with a conversation about your hair, your routine and the result you want. Your stylist confirms the price before any color goes on, so there are no surprises at checkout.
Single-process color applied from root to end for a richer, more even shade. It’s the right choice when you want to warm up, deepen or brighten your natural color, or move to a completely new shade in one visit.
Natural-looking color for men who want to soften gray or refresh their shade without it looking done. It’s booked together with a haircut, so you’re in and out in one visit.
Looking for brightness and dimension rather than an all-over shade? See our foil highlights and balayage page.

Color is applied, processed and rinsed, followed by a toner if your shade needs one.
You leave with a blow-dry if you booked one, plus advice on keeping your color fresh at home and when to come back. Appointments longer than two hours need a card on file when you book.

Hair color, also called single-process color, changes or refreshes the shade of all your hair from root to end and covers gray. Highlights lighten selected strands with foils or hand-painting to add brightness and dimension. Many clients combine the two.
Yes. Corrective color, balayage, ombre and color painting are quoted after a consultation, because the work depends on your hair’s history and condition. Call either salon to book a consultation before your color appointment.
Most clients refresh their roots every four to six weeks, especially when covering gray. If your color is close to your natural shade, you can often go longer. A toner between visits keeps blondes and brunettes from turning brassy.
Clients travel to us for color from towns along the shoreline and up the river valley.
